This course is designed for the beginner who would like to explore
the world of medical coding. Students will cover topics related to
both the physician’s office and hospital coding. Physician’s
office topics will include: introduction to CPT, evaluation/management
services, anesthesia/surgery, radiology, and pathology/laboratory,
medicine, ICD-9-CM introduction, ICD-9-CM guidelines and third party
reimbursements and managed care. Course topics for hospital coding
include: surgery coding, outpatient coding, procedure coding, anatomy
and UB-92 claim forms. Instructors will discuss certification process
for coding during this course. This course may be used as continuing
education for those individuals already working in the field.
Prerequisite: Medical Terminology. (Must bring proof of completion
upon registration)
